Here it is, but be warned: I'm not much of a poet (I can sing, though).

Top o' the NewPage it's
good ol' HAL nine-thousand
Vatican Milliner's
Perfect Cust'mer
Monomaniacally
hunting for rule-breaking
attributable to
human error.

I felt that "Vatican Milliner's Perfect Customer" fits well in mine, as I've been the main proponent of the title.
Also, sorry about the second-last line's not quite fitting, but I needed to maintain the integrity of the original quote.

Again, rule 3: The first line should be devoid of information content or nearly so. Also, the rhymes are feminine (weak), but there you've got me: I neglected to specify the rule for rhyming. Trust a computer to successfully sidestep a human's rules.

Another problem: Your fourth and eighth lines have the meter DUM-da-DUM-da instead of DUM-da-da-DUM. Of course, sound emphasis comes (literally) as naturally as breathing to humans, while a computer must depend on software simulation of air pressure in speech. (A minor fault in your AERO-35 unit, perhaps?)

I was puzzling over one for you, myself. My second line was going to be "HAL the unflappable," but that would have necessitated adding "Not Red" somewhere for clarity. I like your version better, particularly monomaniacally. BUT─
Please don't be offended if I suggest a revision (which I can't resist; as I've noted before, I'm a bit anal about meter):

    Jupiter Shmupiter
    good ol' HAL nine-thousand
    Vatican Millin'ry
    Perfectly Wears.
    Monomaniacally
    hunts for rule-breaking at-
    tributed to when a
    mere human errs.

Yours is indeed better. My interest in poetry is rather new, and thus needs some work. When confronted with a meter/accented syllable rule, I tend to contort words in my head.

Sometimes it is better to find out what (if any) injuries have occurred, before yanking on someone blindly. It's also advised that if a person falls, they should lay still for a moment before getting up, in order to prevent dizziness; even if it's only a little tumble.

So, for right now, we have probably the most breathless "Wait For It" yet.

That is done by creating an animated gif or png file. You can use advanced image editing software like photoshop or gimp to make them yourselves. Many other programs may do it as well. You can also make them on websites by uploading several images to a website and it outputs a finished gif for you. Just google "online animated gif maker".

Note all the images need to be the same size to make it easy. Though their is a trick you can use which is to make any smaller images have a transparent background for the bits they are missing which will work fine as a forum avatar.

Edit: Ninja'd by mscha!

Thank you, Latent22 and mscha! I forgot mscha (I pronounce it like "misha," do you?) had one of those fancy avatars as well. I just remembered that Latent22 had the first one. I'll have to give this a try. Maybe making animated gifs will be one of the many things that I learn from the OTT.

I wrote the second verse first and I am still much happier with it than the first verse. I found "ice" to be a much harder rhyme than expected when trying to write the first verse, but couldn't find a good way to end the second verse on a different word.

Re: mscha, I've been pronouncing it something like muss-tcha, with a very short u in the first syllable and the emphasis on the second. From his latest double-dactyl, I seem to have this about right.

Re: 1190: "Time"

Postby Angelastic » Sun May 19, 2013 12:39 am UTC

I just found an email from myself from a couple of wips ago, with the subject line 'OTT mustard buffalo' and this URL as the body. I assume I intended to post it here because both mustard and buffalo have come up in this thread, and the link is to a song containing the lyric 'We have but nine mustards and a mildly-neutered buffalo with a throbbing infection that is neither erotic nor Paraguay.' So I guess we'll have a flame war about whether it should be 'nine mustard bricks' instead.

Vytron: The future.

My brain may be tricking me into thinking that I'm writing this now, but clearly, I'm in April 10. This post has a time stamp of May 2. The future, unambiguously.

Thinking I'm posting this in my present is an Outsider Illusion, the truth is, this message doesn't exist until I catch up to it (that's why catching it is important). Though, from your frame of reference, I'm posting it now (but it'll be forever in the past after you read it - so much, that when I actually read it, it'll be my past too, because I'll read it at a much later time.)

macraw83 wrote:And on that note, what if we quoted them on something they might eventually say? They might have to say it eventually just to fulfill the prophecy (assuming that's what it even is).

That would be risky. What if you quote me posting something I never say? That could get paradoxical quickly.

I was quoted in another Time Traveler's signpost! I'm not sure if responding to it here is the most efficient mode of communication, because who knows how far into his future it is right now (or, maybe he's already caught up, but I don't know since I'm still stuck in the past myself. And then factoring how long it would take me to catch up to any potential responses...), but here it goes anyway:

I suppose you're correct. It is only my Outsider influences (including the computer I'm Blitzing the One True Thread on... odd) that are telling me that it is currently May 9, when in fact I am currently in the day May 2.

And also, for the second bit, I've added a little something to my sig, and I'm curious as to how it plays out.

Yes! I'm currently in May 10, while my computer clock says it's May 18, that's clearly the future :)

We may even be the only people ever communicating like this, my message got to you one week later, yours got to me one week later, so I hope you will read this by May 27!

And, just because few people will get this (as it happened with Apefish):

Booger.
Go! Go! You can do it username5243!
Cheers Marsh'n!

O piffle

Okay, family life has led me to an unexpected post. First my 16-year-old daughter*, looking over all the double dactyls, said, "You started a meme. A Time meme." And I immediately thought, Timeme! We're creating Timemes!

Then my wife looked at this newpix and said, "Oh, a frog; good. If Megan had fallen down a rabbit hole, I'd have been pissed."

And I immediately thought,
