Aw, first time I lose a message I was making, and I don't know how, the page just refreshed suddenly  (will use notepad from now on...)

Contained things like "the potato that isn't turned into chips is a wasted potato", thanking partingLance and wishing xem best, being impressed at the speed in which BlitzGirl ketchup with 34 pages on the thread, discussion about 6 being male and having spiky hair (I claim that's her brother Six, her name being pronounced "Seis", as in my mother language Spanish), a reply to HAL about his message (in short "I love the BlitzGirl number and all the things people come up with, and I think HAL was the only one thinking* such things made some people more important than others, they don't".)

*Or rather "HAL was the only one thinking other people could be thinking other people would be made more important by such features or inflate their egos".

Oh, I remember this part well:

Come back, fencemolpy!

I wonder, if a rain dance calls the rain, will a dialogue dance call dialogue? We could use some of that.

And a fencemolply dance to summon back the fencemolpy, or that he'll reveal more of himself?

I vote either for "Gaggle" (because it is fun to say), or else a common word used for something completely unrelated and repurposed to mean a group of molpies, as with the word "murder" being used to denote a group of crows. But rather than "murder," I vote to nonsensically repurpose the word "pancreas" for this purpose (as it, like gaggle, is also fun to say).

If the dancing keeps up, we may find ourselves surrounded by a whole pancreas of molpies!

And while I'm conceding things, I must admit that a "waiting of molpies" is both apropos and elegant. However, if there are other creatures we need group denotations for, I continue to keep "pancreas" in the running.

I guess it is a fruit bearing vine, still who ever is running this vineyard is very foolish in having them so low to the ground, or are very short so it wont strain there backs.

Two observations on the current newpix:
1. No return of the molpy. (Must have returned to its waiting. ;) )
2. Cueball asks “Do you think it's OK to take some”, right after he took some...

My vote goes to a pile of molpies. "Waiting" is a sacred word, and besides, we don't know if molpys wait.

A pancreas of molpys is also good, because it is silly.

A Mope of molpys is also good. Maybe that should get my vote.

Wow, lots of great creative stuff has happened while I coma'd and got some work done. Great to see lots of ketchups and molpy-spotting and the transition from baobabs to... an overgrown fence?
Oh, there's a 'some' which it may or not be okay to take. I don't think it's a vineyard, but maybe a vine0.9144metres.

My vote goes to a pile of molpies. "Waiting" is a sacred word, and besides, we don't know if molpys wait.

And crows don't murder. Moles don't run a company. Cats don't necessarily glare. You don't have to pity doves. Ducks don't need a raft. Foxes rarely skulk. Goldfinches may not be charming. It's not a good idea to boil hawks, they don't like that much. Mice aren't always mischievous. It's unlikely that owls have a parliamentary democracy. It is inadvisable to gulp a swallow. Don't give a swan a wedgie, just don't. Trouts don't hover. Woodpeckers sometimes ascent.
Your point is? :)

Man, things always happen while I'm away from the thread. A vineyard is cool, especially since its inhabited by molpies ( possible a whole waiting of them).

and thanks to everyone who liked my sestina. I'm intrigued by the jabber-walky multiverse that's going on at the moment.
I made my avatar, Buffygirl hatted it, Yappo smileyed it and ggh taroted it!
I've changed, witnessing this thing so beautiful

Good luck on blitzing, katakissa, username5243, musthavebeenmykarma, iskinner, thunk, GnomeAnne, and quantized ! Keep the signposts coming, we love em in the now!

I cite the ridiculousness of these phrases as a case in point for why a "pancreas of molpies" is a great phase, even though we don't know if all of our pixilated molpy friends even have pancreases. According to these, it seems to matter very little what odd word is chosen, but what obscure and enjoyable to say word better than "pancreas" are we likely to come across?
In Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high and 100 miles wide. Once every 1000 years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. One time, I changed just the last sentence of this signature, and lots of you noticed. Image

[edit] Oh, and ONG, I wasn't paying attention to the Time. My head isn't in the game right now. I'll have a drink of water and try to remember to Wait For It.
The dialogue continues :D Looks like it is okay to take 'some'. Good. I like grapes.

ergman wrote:Alright. I did a Sestina. It wasn't easy, but damn if if was fun. I went for the 11 syllables per line rule as well, though apparently that isn't mandatory. Suffice to say I did a lot of counting on my fingers:
Spoiler:
In Time we heed certain creeds: the sea is big
Revealed by our prophets: the river is small
Cuegan's brief rare dialogues: the tree is neat
Recorded, hid in footnotes: the fire is old
Mystic exposition: empty, beautiful
And of course lord Randall's own words: wait for it

When I first stumbled all alone into It
A panel as per thrice a week, nothing big
Two folk on a beach, so zen and beautiful
Left it alone thinking it something small
Returned later and saw not panel of old
An oh so slow changing image, I thought 'Neat'

Curious about the rules of all things neat
I wiki'd and found a religion 'bout it
In needle pulled form, 400 pages old
I feared to blitz, for time was scarce, pages big
I joined in, threw in my voice, though it is small
I could not bypass something so beautiful

I Learned the terms, the mad tongue so beautiful
I met the folk so kind, funny and neat
Hunted for the molpy, secretive and small
The varied creation pile, I fed some to it
Speculated heresy, theories big
For food I gave sorbet to replace the old

If time ended I could not go back to the old
I've changed, witnessing this thing so beautiful
I can't undrink from the salty sea so big
I forever shall regard the trees as neat
There's double meaning when I say wait for it
The man I was pre-OTT was someone small

Outside now throws my way many matters small
Narnia style, will I one day grow too old?
Ok, that worry's senseless, do it ignore it
Have faith that OTC's forever beautiful
Believe in GLR, science-god so neat
He knows what he's doing like the trees so big

~It needs small words , sestina the beautiful
I'm a whole six stanzas old, and its still neat
Though I'm tired of it's 39 lines; so big~

Well, there you have it. Very melodramatic, as many poems are. Coma time for me now. Have fun

Depends on the author. Typically, very little action is actually indicated by the author, as it is implied by the speech. Some authors put no stage directions whatsoever into their plays, but others load tons of stage and emotional directions onto the page. IMHO, that is overkill.

The effective use of stage directions depends on the limitations of the particular stage the play is being mounted on, and stage direction is often modified by the director to fit. (Words of dialog are never ever (supposed to be) altered however.)

Some publishers (I was going to name names, but when I checked I found a bit more variation than I had remembered) will insert stage directions that copied directly from the stage manager's notes from the first professional performance; this is usually next to useless, since it is too specifically tied to the size and arrangement of that particular venue.

As an author, I tend to put very little stage direction in my works, since I trust the actor and director to bring out the character in whatever manner is appropriate for the setting. As an actor, I find excessive stage direction to be distracting, as it will often merely echo what I'm going to do anyway, or what I cannot do ("crosses to sofa stage left" is hard to do when the sofa is actually center stage to make room for the hallway door which would otherwise not even fit) That said, I put a little bit more stage direction in my OTT works, since they are meant to be read, not performed.

In most cases, stage directions come before the dialog, but there are exceptions there too, for action that takes place afterwards, or by a character that has no dialog at the time.

I'm glad to see your writing skills aren't confined to the OTT (though, of course, that is the most important place for them.) I had to laugh when I read your post. I'm in a production of Into the Woods (which is relevant, since M&C just went into, and out of, the woods.) You're so right about the stage direction--the book has directions like "nervously," "giggles," "calm and cold," and it's just so silly. Like you wouldn't know that was the intention from the line itself. But of course it might be different if the play was meant to be read only. Though I think we should stage or film these stories that are being written.

I also found out that the director randomly cut a few lines. I can't imagine why; they're somewhat important. Arrrgghh, well, it's a student director. I guess she's still learning...

Back in the 1960s, we found after the opening night of our high school production of "South Pacific" that the number "You've got to be carefully taught" had been ordered cut by the School Board -- and our director had ignored that order. We performed it every night for two weeks. She was let go at the end of the next school year, and went on to teach drama at a college for several decades.
