How cool would it be if someone would print out all Time-frames and hang those in a T(/subway/tube/metro) tunnel, in the way Randall describes?
(Or maybe this is that project He describes, although, of course, we've long passed 300 frames.)

...eeehhh...not really that cool. Animation of the OTC, such as in the Book of Aubron, stopped being enticing when dialogue in the OTC became a thing. Something similar but wordless, though, OMRyes.

Ah, yes, good point. Actually, the frame shifting every few newpix doesn't help much either. (Also, a flipbook of the entirety of Time, aside from being a bit too thick, wouldn't work anymore.)

I don't completely remember but I think I just came up with Yappo as a silly, cute name, and it evolved offshoots such as Yappobiscuits like I use here, or sometimes Captain Yappo.

I was the one with the wild ideas about the fence being covered in olives (it wasn't a fence, it was a long row of young olive trees with wires stretched between them!)
The sources of some of the things we consume points out how desperate for food our ancestors must have been to try some of the things they did: curdled milk, tree bark, seeds...

Worse, for me: Decades back Dragon magazine ran a comic called Wormy, by a cartoonist named Dave Trampier (known as Tramp). Wormy was a long-story comic with a weird, intricate, and fascinating plot, dozens of unique characters, and, as it happens, a miniature castle being built by trolls. But the strip just stopped appearing in mid-story, and the editors of Dragon wrote that Tramp had dropped out of contact with no explanation, without even accepting the last payments due him (leading Phil Foglio to say, “When an artist’s checks are returned uncashed, he is presumed dead”). Years later Tramp turned up as a cab driver in Illinois, but he no longer has anything to do with art, and Wormy shall forever remain unfinished.

And then there's Phil Foglio himself, not exactly a man of 25 any more either. I've got no particular reason to worry about his health, but the Girl Genius story could easily run on for years more, and I live in dread he'll kick the bucket before he wraps up all the key threads.

On the other hand there was Dune. When did you finally give up on it?

I don't remember ever finishing Dune Messiah, actually, although I've read the original Dune several times. I got a lot further with Cherryh's Merovingen Nights series, until I realized that each book seemed to cover a shorter span of time, and that the plot was broadening without noticeably advancing. I quit when I got the feeling that the next book, or maybe the one after it, would take place entirely between lunch and teatime, and would introduce at least thirty new plot threads.

Yeah, but that's not the point. We need new adjectives. What am I to do with my default footnote list now? Image
Also, the jury is still out on whether it's a single day. Aside from Cueball's comments in frame 1600, we've also seen them sleep under the tree around the 1350s. We haven't seen it get dark, but my assumption is that they spent the night and woke up the next morning - Cueball first, wandering off, finding the infamous Molpyberries.

Both good points. It is true that they've shown a little bit of a lack in originality considering how little they've been talking (or, how little we've seen them talk).
And I hadn't realized that their time under the tree could have represented a night's rest. It makes enough sense for it to be what Randall intended.

If they're going to the mountains they should use that wood to fashion walking sticks and maybe skies (they might reach snow if they climb enough!).

Although when the grapes are ripe, usually the vines will have a lot of growth above the wire (which are then pruned off before the next season.

I think the usual process for introducing a weird food to someone's diet is hunger. I mean...if you have lots of grain, stored in sealed containers (to keep vermin out) and one of them ends up under a leak inside a dwelling...you might very well toss out this fizzy weird smelling muck. But if you have one container...you are probably going to hold your nose and drink it (and then eat the grains too). Scientists, excuse me, heretics outside, think that the discovery of beer followed very shortly on the heels of domesticating grain, likely in many places.

Sorry, but it's true :P A grumpy curmudgeonly character though!

'Fraid so.

It really is annoying when all that carefully cultivated crankiness and prickliness gets considered endearing, or worse, cute.

In other news, Trolleypup is solidly heretical, being the nickname, or at least job title I gained as a youth Outside, assisting the crews on the Boat Car (see avatar) with the trolley pole which doesn't always track properly. There is one other 'trolleypup' who is way less active than me, so I have never had to use a different username. OutsideH, I am still Trolleypup, including the years I drove the Boat, and now as a trainer...yes, I answer to it, at least as well as my given name. Other people may pup the poles, but they don't get the nickname.

With Platonix's fourth verse, our JabberWalky so far:

Jabber-walky

'Twas midday, and the molpymurs
Did dig and tunnel in the ground
All flighty were the raptorbirds,
And the beesnakes did abound.

Fear the molpyraptror, Megan!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the the ninjashark! And shun
the beesnakes that seek your snatch!

They took their dilgun'rang in hand:
Long time the sea answers they sought—
So rested they by the neat "Neat tree,"
And lay awhile in thought.

And as in thought they let Time pass,
The MolpyRabtor, bird-and-hare,
Came hopping/flying through the grass,
And screeched to see them there!

And may I offer:

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal trebuchet went thwack!
The RabtorBird fled with its head
And never lookéd back.

Or the second line could be
‘The trebuchet went snicker-snack!’

and if we want to get silly the final two lines could be:

‘The RabtorBird fled sans it's head
And Cuegan had a snack.’

but that doesn't fit with what we've seen in the OTC

-RabtorBird is interchangeable with MolpyMur

(Oh, and my name doesn't mean anything in particular except that I like blue crab, either happily swimming around or on my plate :) )

Hey that's a good example. I totally forgot about the disastrous ending to LOST.

I trust that he has a better plan than that, and unlike a TV show, he can end things on his own schedule and not be rushed into it by budget, ratings or TV executives...

Ace is a completely new username, to me at least. The one I picked when I was a teenager - half my life ago - stuck with me for way too long, and my usual substitute was fairly gender specific. (I was lurking for the mispronoun thing early in the thread, way way back there, and I guess it influenced my username choice. By the way: I don't care about gender pronouns as applied to myself, call me by any, or just call me Ace. I will use preferred pronouns for others, should I know them.)

One of the reasons I picked this name was because I was in the mindset that 'everything changes', and it seemed like a good choice. It could mean 'awesome' or it could mean something as small as '1 of cards'. I liked the flexibility of it. It helps that I'm a fan of Red Dwarf (Ace Rimmer) and Doctor Who (Ace was a companion)

I had this idea that I'd change my avatar a lot (my thought for first was Bialar Crais (Farscape) with caption 'Bialar Ace' or similar) but I think I'm happy with it as it is, actually. The avatar changing idea was dropped because it didn't seem nearly as clever in retrospect as it did at the time.A Making avatars is hard, and I am in awe of buffygirl's millinery.

AThis avatar took longer than I'd care to admit to get done.
Wait for it.

Cueball said he'd get more water. Is that a spring or a well he's at?

I've had a "spam" account since 1987 (longish story in itself). My initials are jam.

And now I wonder if there is any frequent poster for whom I would have a number greater than one...

Also, mountains! I predict the panorama will get interesting!

Philosophically, I would deny that there exist non-trick questions which are inherently unanswerable; There are some for which different people would have answers, but given enough time and the right tools, any why question should be answerable. even if we don't particularly like those answers. I beleive it is possible given enough time, for us to understand utterly the nature of the universe, and have no more left to learn about it. I'm glad I don't live in that time, however. how boring and sad it would be to know that every discovery has been dicovered, every point plotted, all things understood--for there to be nothing left to ponder, no experiments left to run. No Science left to do. I weep for the day we understand everything.

That being said, the question of why the ocean is rising is totally answerable; it just might not be answerable by Cuegan, with the tech they have at hand. Also, semicolon.

Kay, first of all, I'm still blitzing the last 24-hours worth, and I'm almost caught up... just in time for coma. =/ So, even thought I have other things I'd like to comment on, tonight, I think I'll just toss in on this one:

Mine is just the three first letters of my first name, followed by the three first letters of my family name. Not too clever, but it happens to be a word too; it would be "micrite" in English (MICRocrystalline calcITE). Now that I think about it, it would be a good troll name in a Discworld book.

Mine is similar to mikrit's, although it also includes my middle name (yes, my middle name is Melvan, and my first and last name both begin with Ken). It is a handle I've used since getting my first email at age 9.

Peace out.
In Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high and 100 miles wide. Once every 1000 years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. One time, I changed just the last sentence of this signature, and lots of you noticed. Image

I try not to remember.

With all this newpixbot activity, perhaps it is gaining sentience? I do hope it winds up with a pro-human attitude.

I'm not sure how kind it'll be as spamjam has 'teased' it for the last two newpix and the only time it gets to post is when other people are slacking. I can't say that it seems like a good grounding for a sympathetic robot overlord. :(

I'm trying to get regular exercise to remove of my "handles"! (I assume ones like mine are fairly obvious  )
