I think that the pace of the ONGs caused us to evolve faster than OtherThreads, into a new sort of superconsciousness on the xkcd fora. I can see how that might be scary to those watching from afar. But fear not!

Uh… resistance is futile?

I believe that by the next Madness the standard forum filters will have no effect upon us.

You're right - we'll probably just adopt them into the standard OTTish language.

And how could I forget to thank someone who ottified The Proclaimers. That's one of my favorite songs of all time.
Don't take this as a wet blanket, but I think someone else used this song earlier. Not that I complaining about two different versions of "500 Miles" on the one hand. And on the other hand; it's not the first time a song as been ottified more than once. In fact, it's kind of fun to compare them, especially when the OTT time frame is taken into account. (Early hopeful vs. post-event wistful.)

Yep - that was me who OTTified this song earlier. But as pelrigg said, it's not the first time two different people have OTTified the same song, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Yay a blag post!! That has really made my day - not just because it answers some questions for us, but because it gives us all a chance to say thanks. Being able to add comments there is pretty much what I had in mind when I suggested collecting thank you messages in another forum thread, but much more direct and appropriate. It was great reading everybody's responses. I don't know if Randall set out to create an awesomeful community as well as a geological detective story/thrilling futuristic adventure/ground-breaking online experience, but he definitely succeeded in all of those.

On the T-shirts, I think suggesting designs in the wiki is a great idea - I would definitely buy one some ok lots, but I would definitely want the money to go the xkcd store rather than $RandomPrintingOutfit. I'm happy to Wait For It a while.

I love the outburst of creativity in here lately - the number of ottifications had slowed a bit while the pace of the OTC sped up, but now they are let loose again! They are all wowterful, but Whizbang's OtherComic, Kieryn's castle, AutoX65Vair's Megan and Cueball and dawnfire's colourful Beanish made me especially happy :D

As for Eternal Density and his allegedly mysterious brother, I think they both know I called it back on NP1056 :P

I drank my ketchup over several hours today, and now it's coma time. I've got an OTTification in mind, but I need to figure out exactly how I want it to go. Should be up tomorrow. Also, Kieryn has given me a few great ideas for colorizing. More info as I decide what to do and how to do it.

This took surprisingly little modification from the original:
Spoiler:
Time goes ever on and on
Down from the beach where it began.
Now far uphill the river's gone,
And they must follow, if they can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where wowterfalls and canyons meet.
And whither then? They cannot say.

Time goes ever ever on,
Under star and baobab tree,
From fields where long the sun has shone,
And rivers that don't reach the sea;
Over dunes by aeons sown,
And through the long abandoned vines,
Over grass and over stone,
And through the trees engraved with signs.

Times goes ever ever on
Underneath far-future star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that Beanies' maps now know
With horror in those halls of stone
Look one last time to home below
And plains and hills they long have known.

Time goes ever on and on
Up from the beach where it began.
Now far above the tribe have gone,
Let others follow them who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
As they at last with weary feet
Will step into the air so thin,
Their destinies and fates to meet.

Not sure it would even be possible, since there are no couriers, postal services, etc. that I know of that will carry alcohol. But if you should find yourself in the vicinity (perhaps en route to Madagascar?) you'll be more than welcome to drop by to help me quaff a few.

If I could find a way to ship some, I'd certainly like to send a few to Mr Munroe in thanks.

yappobiscuits wrote:Awesomeful idea! Weirdly, I also had this idea the other dip, but my brewing knowledge is too non-existant to actually have done it myself, so I'm glad you did!

You should try it - brewing is really quite easy. One of those things you can make as simple or as complicated as you like.

I'm not sure about the name "What-d'If" - I've also thought of calling it "1190 Ale" or "Coffeesemencancerbabiesonice Blonde". Suggestions from the OTTers, please!

ETA: The "One True Ale" would seem presumptuous, no?

The brew went exceptionally well, and a tasting of the raw wort (before the yeast gets pitched) tells me this one is going to be exceptional. Soft, balanced, just a hint of fruity-spiciness, and just sweet enough to balance the hops. Things are looking good in the fermenters this morning.

Now for an sea-ish ketchup - posting here from NP1288/1303!

To be honest with you, I never check whether something has been OTTified before. 50000 posts on there will always be the chance of some overlap, however slight. I have a very associative brain, and I am quick in spotting and identifying patterns. Unless the OTTifications are near identical (and having read most, if not almost all on the OTT the chances are slim), I would think that there is some room for songs to be multiple times OTTified. This also means that my ottifications should never be taken as one-upmanship, for example, I wrote this when my brain was triggered by ttscp. And a disclaimer: most of my stuff is written in 30 minutes or less, there will always be room for improvement. Despite that, some of these actually turn out pretty well, if I may so myself. This one is nice, Paint it Black was nice, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight with a segue into Paradise by the Dashboard Light is not so much good as it is silly (which makes it funny, at least to me).

So, if you enjoy it, let me know (and thanks), if not, feel free to ignore.

When I'm lonely yes I know I'm gonna be
hurrying back to ketchup on the OTT & C
When I'm dreaming yes I know I'm gonna dream
Dream about the time in the OTT & C

But I would watch 1550 frames
And I would watch 1550 more
Just to be the man who watched 3100 frames
Before he is forced to molpy down
500 miles - by the Proclaimers.

Awesome filk and the song will now be in my head ALL DAY...thank you :P

I began ottifying Les Mis but a lot of it was depressing. Below is the least depressing one.

You're not alone (On my Own - Eponine)
Spoiler:
And now we’re all alone my friend, no more newpix, no ong to wait for
without Cueball, without Megan, without a molpy or a raptor
And now the end is here
let otters shed their final tear

Sometimes I check the otc
and see the waves still looping
I go to Geekwagon , pretend
Cuegan’s journey is still trooping
but then I reach the end
And I’m glad I have these friends

No more Ongs
No more Time for Waiting
All our songs
And rapt anticipating
Our page popes
and blitzers always blitzing
The thread’s still here, but friend’s I fear
it’s OTC that’s missing

but the pain, the pain won’t last forever
We’ll still laugh and OTTify together
In the post-time, we still have eachother
And when I see the posts you leave I smile sisters and brothers

And I know the comic is behind
all the bonds we have achieved and fostered here
If we look close I know that we will find
From today, there's still Time for us

I did wait
But now that Time is over
We go on
Our friendships growing stronger
in Post time
The thread around me changes
We molpy up and molpy down
and never will be strangers

We go on
And though the end felt tragic
All this time
We brought half the magic
Without time
The world will go on turning
So fill our world with happiness
and facts I didn’t know

I’m Still here
You’re still here
We’re still here
And so One true thread grows

Absolutely lovely! Treeish? Treeëst! This is perhaps the one frame that's most deserving of this enhancement. It's such an important and thrilling moment, but I found it almost indecipherable in the original 2d, binary-coloured form.

Thanks, BlitzGirl!

New Present for everyone.

Kind of SEAish and long and its just a test version really.

Long.mp4

Has all the OTVO audio so far (not much!) plus most of the color frames so far plus I've tried adding a soundtrack to it as well which is the main thing I'm testing. But It's currently just two songs I found mp3's for repeated just as a test case to see if it works or not.

See what you think though. You may want to skip forward to where you know their is audio or color frames because it is 28 minutes long!!!

I really need some more voice samples to work with from Yappo and Val at some point to get this to the next level :)

ETA: Oh and thank you to Yappo and Marsh'n for the music I stole!

Nice one. But how about (I left out the spoken bits and the Fantine interaction) :

At the end of Time you're about 4 months older
And that's all you can say for the life of us here.
It was a struggle, it was hell
To keep up with what everyone's giving.

One more day, ketching up, what is it for?
One day less to be blitzing.

At the end of Time you're another day colder,
And the shirt on your back is not GLR's.
And the Outsiders hurry past, They don't hear the OTTers crying...

And the withdrawal is coming on fast, ready to strike.
One day filled with sighing!

At the end of the day there's another day dawning,
But no newpix in the morning is there on display.

And the waves crash on the sand, and the raft will break any second...
The 40 went on in the land, There's a reckoning still to be reckoned...
And there's gonna be hell to pay, At the end of Time!

GLR wrote:At the end of Time you get sleep deprivation... Drawing frame after frame just to stay ahead.

We deny it's over, we demand something more
Color frames, ottify songs,
Keep on writing as long as you're able
Keep on writing till you drop,
We'll treasure the blag that's now on the table.
We found the OTC sublime, At the end of Time!

Now come on people, settle down,
I am the Main-Mome of this thread,
I run a business of repute.
Now be as gentle as you can,
will someone say how this began?

OTTers wrote:At the end of Time we keep on being creative
We keep the thread going as long as we can
GLR did it for us - he just said so
So we stay here as long as we're able
Or we end up in BlitzGirl's basement
And we ignore that frame saying 'the end'
Yes, we found the OTC sublime, At the end of all Time!

I'm still two pages back, but this should have been mentioned already.

Maybe throw him a little royalties with each shirt...?

I believe all of his work is licensed under creative commons, so his artwork is free to use so long as xkcd.com is sited as source and credited. I am sure none of us would have a problem giving credit where credit is due :)

Were I to design OTC t-shirts, and sell to others (which I do not see actually happening), I would be more than happy to donate to xkcd.com, more than just a little royalties. But alas, I am no entrepreneur. However, if I do make a shirt, and purchase for myself (which I am seriously considering), I will gladly make an additional donation to xkcd.com. Though, I would still prefer to purchase an OTC item directly from the xkcd.com store. But even GLR needs his rest, so I will not press the issue for new OTC merchandise on xkcd.com

Actually, it is a noncommercial creative commons license. No selling. Sorry. Make sure you understand the difference.

Ketchuped up. Wow less than 10 pages and there's a sea of things I want to reply to....

First (and most Important) I read, and commented on, GLR's blog on "TIME". Fantastic. I'd been thinking how "neat" it would if He did something like that and He dood it. I thing I did say in my comment was about TIME merchandise and how I would make a suggestion about it in the OTT. To whit:
Attention All OTTer's who would like to see TIME stuff at the xkcd Store....

I told GLR that we would keep the T-shirt suggestion page up to date. Therefore, I humbly* suggest that any and all merchandise be posted on the wiki page Requested T-shirt slogans. That should include BlitzGirl's Tee, yappo's tees, there was a polo shirt with a Lucky emblem, BlitzGirl's Flame Emblem (I remember several folks saying "T-shirt, please"), and any other shirts and things which you remember saying "I'd wear that" or "drink from that". Please either enter them yourself on the wiki, or "search" your own posts and bring the suggestion forward for a wiki-warrior to post. This way if GLR does want to make Time stuff He's got a convenient place to look for suggestions. (Also, it would solve the copyright problem for us.)
I didn't put a link in my blog post comment because I knew that page was out of date.

Attention All OTTer's who would like to see TIME stuff at the xkcd Store....

Spoiler:
I'm going to post this by itself and get back with my other comments.

*no not head-up-butt-ness.... (this time)

Sadly that page gives me the error "Rich text editing has been disabled because the page contains complex code." In source mode I can't understand it. It's not simply HTML and there seems to be no way of indicating something is a picture, thus it will create a link. I'd like to add BlitzGirl's ColorBazooka shirts, but I can't.
Probably I'm just being an idiot and once I submit this I'll find how to do it. In that case I'll edit it.

Leaving is hereby declared heretical, if someone didn't ninja me on that. This means I, as Grand Inquisitor, can go to the basement and join the party punish those heathen bastards. Yaay for the Holy Inquisition!

Edit to delete accidental ninjedit.

Wowterful ottifications and manips, all! After those, I don't know why I dare to do another one.

But I dreamed of Rosetta last night, and couldnt help but share the moment she tried to explain the OTT to Cuegan:

Well the obvious one is the mustard song.

"Edit the mustard Out
Edit the mustard OOOOOOUUUUUT"

Or Dawn's lament
"Did you see the changing newpix?
did anybody hear the Ong?"

And a quick one for Sweet's departure
"What a lot of fun, you guys have been real swell!
And there's not a one, who can't say this ended well!
All those pixels we've been comparing
songs we've ottified, manips we're sharing!
OTC is done, but don't say farewell...."

I'll look at some of the others later.

Present- Ketchup

Made it. Though I knew about the end of time, its sudden arrival still managed to surprise me (I didn't imagine that the 40-50 pages I still had left to ketchup could possibly all be post-OTC in such a short space of time). It's been a lot of fun, and Randall did a great job (though like some others I found the ending sequence unsatisfactory- I mean, the 'let's go and explore' kind of ending is classic, but I didn't feel it came after any kind of resolution). I don't post or contribute much, but this is thread is rare proof that that the internet doesn't always end in flames and tears. Though, I've still got stuff to read, I always skipped Acts of the Clerics (just because I only have so much time, and I felt like a separate story wasn't quite necessary to the idea of ketchup) but maybe I'll have to start now.

edo wrote:Changed. I'm sure no one will like this one either, but more than anything, I was trying to be helpful. There will be no cake for Minim, when she arrives, no one will welcome her. Is that what you want? They won't get the consolation we've been getting. No shoulder for them o cry on. Whatever. I guess it's just a stupid webcomic. I was deluding myself into thinking it was more. That this was more.

I'm sure the OTT will continue regardless, I hope you all continue on, at least. edo, I see that you indeed haven't posted since this- you should come back. I still feel I was completely justified in feeling angry at that spoiler, especially now that I've been past and seen that there were others who had already complained about this, but even if it was replaced by a snarky reply, thanks for removing said spoiler. And thanks to Charlie especially, as well as Valarya and a few others, for thinking of the blitzers and/or supporting my sentiments.

Also,
BlitzGirl wrote:Image

This is insane. Possibly the best piece of art in the OTT. On a similar note, taking the epilogue-loop and turning it into an epilogue-rhyming scheme, that actually works in practice, from everyone who did one, was fantastic.

neopifex wrote:It's a play on the concept of "rock god," except it's a rock cod playing a Stratocaster. Before you ask, yes, I do have another design of a bass playing bass.

... Is there any chance you could upload said design? The bass/bass pun become a bit of an in-joke in a band I was in a while back.

I was going to pack up and leave now, but I don't like basements, and I spose there's not much point actively quitting. I didn't post much before and so I might as well leave things up and running, and continue not posting much now.
