Nonononono. That is maple flavored butter. Maple butter is what happens when you start the maple candy making process but end it sooner than you're "supposed" to.

Animal butter should not be the base sauce of a dessert pizza.

Ketchup is a pretty crap condiment. Is this controversial?

Pineapple pizza is a kind of controversial topic. One day I discovered that nothing I ever liked about Hawaiian pizza had anything to do with a pig. Pineapple, jalapenos, and bacon (or sausage) is pretty good though.

I wouldn't say that pineapple on pizza is controversial, it's just that if you like it then it invalidates all your opinions on food.

It's mostly a placeholder for "insert tanginess here", I think. I use it for things that need tang but don't really go with actual tomatoes (e.g., fries).

My kids are migrating away from ketchup. My oldest girl wants "BARBECUE SAUCE ON EVERYTHING", my son just uses Frank's Red Hot the way some people use water, and my youngest... well, she still has ketchup on everything, but she's steering towards soy sauce lately. Yay?

Ketchup is ok on a lot of things, and great on nothing. Most other condiments are great on one or two things, and shit on everything else. If I'm just shopping and don't want to buy 16 different condiments, I'll pick up a small bottle of ketchup.

I hated ketchup for about a decade. Now I think it's ok on french fries, but not as good as ranch.

Jalapeños are the key to making pineapple taste good on pizza. Actually jalapeños improve any pizza, but they turn pineapple from something kinda gross into something amazing.

The only reason to put pineapple on pizza is if you want that pizza to taste fantastic.

Jalapenos, however, have no place on pizza. Then again, they don't really have a place in/on any food. I'm not even sure they're edible.

I am apathetic about pineapple on pizza, but grilled pineapple makes the whole concept of deciding to warm up pineapple in the first place worthwhile. Nom.

There was some controversy about it a few pages ago. I like it. It's basically just tomato paste, vinegar, sugar and salt; I don't have a problem with any of these ingredients, so my only complaint about ketchup is that the proportions are not perfect. Stirring in some Sriracha tends to improve things by balancing the sweetness with some heat.

I love good barbecue, but dislike that oversweetened brown goop that calls itself BBQ sauce. People slather it on overcooked chicken breast and call it 'BBQ chicken', or they pour it on mushy braised pork shoulder and call it 'BBQ pulled pork'. Lies. Syrup and food coloring doesn't turn bland meat into barbecue. It just turns it into bland meat pudding.

There are several sauces that do go well with actual barbecue, but the stuff that people who don't like barbecue call 'BBQ sauce' is a disaster. I'll take ketchup over that stuff any day. Of course, neither one of them is getting anywhere near my brisket.

The greatest thing about living in the South is that you learn exactly what good BBQ sauce should be before you are in elementary school. Ketchup-based barbecue sauce is an abomination; the only barbecue sauce worth using is thin, mustard-based, incredibly spicy and not sweet at all.

On meats like pork loin or chicken, the barbecue sauce should be loaded with molasses or brown sugar (and on chicken, should be applied while still on the grill if we aren't talking fried chicken), on beef meats it should be tangy and a bit vinegary. And of course, on a well-seasoned and/or well-marbled cut of beef, it should not be there at all.

Everyone everywhere: "The only right way to make food is to do it the way it's done where I grew up."

Ergo, tomato aspic (made with lemon Jello) served with white Wonderbread tuna salad sandwiches = perfection.

That hurt to type.

People barbecue pork loin? I always thought of that as a grill/pan-fry/roast kind of meat.

Ketchup is my jam.

I pour at least 4 oz of ketchup on each hotdog I eat.

Those of you who eat ketchup and hate it, probably never had Heinz. You probably tried Hunts. Hunts is shit.

You put ketchup on fried chicken, hot dogs and sausage? As someone who likes ketchup, these are not foods I think of as going with ketchup.

Then again, when I was a kid, we used to eat ketchup with English breakfasts, so, grain of salt.

Yes. Also on burgers, any kind of fried potato, hamburger helper, and fried shrimp.

I imagine there are people who do, but I don't. First off, I meant to say pork tenderloin. Second, I slow-grill it. 30 minutes on medium indirect heat in a Weber after marinading for a day or two, it turns out pretty darn good. But if it's raining I will slow roast it in the oven.

Just had delicious chicken and waffles with maple BBQ sauce.

Then I read about further ketchup abominations and ever so briefly had a flash of what that might be like on chicken and waffles, and feel sick again.
