I am loving all the updates to the Castle Builder game. I like the icons, the spoiler button on RedundaKitty (though it does make it easier to spot), the boosts, everything. I am still not sure what "Time Travelling" is, or the Double Down or whatever it is I see people talking about.

I have two games running right now, one at home that I leave open all day and then go on a shopping blitz when I get home, and one at work that I leave open all day and buy things as and when I can, trying to get RedundaKitties and Ninja Stealth. The two game experiences are very different. One I babysit all day, the other I leave mostly to itself with an occasional RedundaKitty or NinjaStealth if I happen to have it open at the right time. My Home game gets much more Castles and Sand than my Work game, because it is open 24/7, just churning out stuff. My Work game, however, has more badges and boosts, but less than half the sand/castle rate of the Home game. One thing that is also interesting is that my Work game is on 30mip Newpix, and the home game is on LongPix. I don't know how it got that way, but it is kinda nice. At work I get a lot more interaction and activity, at home it just chugs along at a good pace.

I kind of wish I had a third game going...

Ha, they're literally treeish! Image Odd, since the children's rhyme that I associate with mulberries is "Here we go round the mulberry bush."

Here we go round the mulberry bush,
The mulberry bush,
The mulberry bush.
Here we go round the mulberry bush
So early in the morning.

And Pop Goes the Weasel.

All around the mulberry bush
The monkey chased the weasel;
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun,
Pop! goes the weasel.

Here we go round the wowterful tree

Woo! Got a Double Down boost and it doubled my Castles! I didn't have much at the time, I probably should have waited, but I was too excited to try out the new boost. I don't see how anyone would not click, though. If you don't, that thing will just sit there in your Boosts, calling to you... Calling... Beating like a Tell Tale Heart. How could you resist? The only choice is to click it when you have a lot of castles, in the hopes of having a lot more, or when you only have a few, in the hopes you don't lose a lot.

Why?

I have stopped the program for now - it is unusable with that message flashing up the screen all the time.
I was in two minds about showing all the messages. At one point I was aggregating them to 1 per 10 mNP. If your computer can't handle it, I'll put that back in.
Also I think I'll rework the numbers a bit: as I alluded to in the quote, I wasn't expecting folks to be so far into the danger zone already. I probably shouldn't have pushed that without a bit more consideration but I was getting rather hungry. I'll let you know when it's safe. Ish.

ETA I finally got blast furnace!

I agree, the notification every single mNP is very annoying. I understand the thinking, but does it need to happen so often?
Spoiler:
What if it happens with 100x the effect every 100 mNP? That would create the same accumulated effect and eliminate the constant notifications.

Are there any plans for sand additives that make castles more durable? Right now we are working with straight sand, which is easily destroyed. What if we introduce some form of Caffeinated Sand, or Cancerous Sand? Can we get some inseminated sand around here? A cumulative effect would, obviously, be in order.

I don't know how this fits in with your current boosts, though. It would probably unbalance some things.

ETA: or maybe, instead of making them more durable, Cafeinated Sand makes all sand faster (a bit) for all Sand Tools. Cancerous Sand makes is even faster. Inseminated Sand is a lot faster.

Ok ... before I do a final sprint to 600 ottifications in the Database here are two links you might like:

The first is an online online editor for coding and sharing simple webpages with css and javascript: Codepen. I just tried it out and it seems pretty treeish, though I am not sure if I would like to code some biger projects with it. But it is responsive (on a reasonable current pc running Chrome) and a great tool to try out some things.

The second might be a treat for our dragons.

Analysis of the Judgement day in Castle Builder

Postby waveney » Mon Sep 16, 2013 8:43 pm UTC

A few days ago in Castle Builder, NewPixBots (npbs) where largely useless (but harmless) once you had a reasonable supply of other castle tools. I am quite good at analysis of building games like this and quickly built up my game to 15,000 castles per ONG on castle tools (Sand is largely useless). Then there was a change that used your redundakitty clicks to improve on npbs - I found this a good improvement, and quickly built my npbs up from 10 to 26 (again optimal), I have 12-16 of all the other castle tools - having done the best analysis to improve my rate of increase in castles.

Then yesterday ED introduced a whole set of new boosts that trigger on having 12 of other tools- suddenly the npbs where producing hundreds of thousands of castles per ONG and I quickly built the npbs up to 33 (on my way to 40). This is now generating 1,300,000 castles per ONG, this makes every other tool irrelevant and the only redundakitties that affect play being the furniture sale and double or nothing. This should have been seriously nerfed, if each raised the base castles by 20%-100% rather than doubled (compound) it would have been reasonable.

Now there is a new feature called judgement day which triggers when the total castles built by npbs * the number of npbs > threashold. This destroys lots (currently 291) of castles every mnp (this is very difficult to display - had it been available an hour earlier it would have been on shortpix not longpix). Now the rate of loss is very high (but still leaves the system making over a million net castles per ONG), one could play on and carry on expanding everything - the game does not need sand then. It is posssible to sell lots of npbs and stop the problem - I can JUST get away with 3 npbs for a few hours, then it will have to be 2 of them for several days then 1 and finally selling them all after ~2 weeks (assuming one clicks on many of the kitties). Or one just gives up.

Fortunatly I long ago turned off autosave, and the saved game I have (it just had its first longpix) can be loaded to try things out, or await changes.

While doing this analysis I found out the only way I think to enable time travel (other than to cheat), is to have molpy downed (not coma) to reset most of the game when on NewPix 2 or more. I can't be bothered.

A good analysis, but would you mind spoilering it for those who wish to discover for themselves?

Spoiler:
You may not have noticed that the NPB boosts each require 12 of a particular tool. Since you were already above that, they were available to you suddenly rather than on a curve. Though I think I need to raise the threshold (at least for sand tools) and the price in sand. And I really wasn't expecting you to have just a large HAL-0-Kitty boost already. Knowing that now, I'll redesign judgement day to ensure it doesn't hit all at once.
Oh and I plan to make the bot boosts each also boost their associated tool.
And I didn't get around to making ways to alleviate or end judgment day. Well, not much.

Oh and the idea of lumping the destruction to be less often (rather than just the messages as I had tested and discarded) is a treeish one, SS.

Hooray, I have reached the present again! I can participate in real time! And Yappo wrote a Swedish song! I love all of your songs!
The Swedish text was not bad at all, just a little mustard here and there. I for one welcome our new Google Translate overlords.

I feel I should praise a lot of stuff I have seen on my ketchup, but I tend to forget who made them, or I just remember the first letter of their username. So, at least three people whose names start with W did some amazing stuff, I am sure of that, and ED and BG of course, and pelrigg and ucim and mrob, mscha of course, and, well. [Insert your own name here.]

He's certainly missed, so hopefully whatever needed attending will be quick about it.

Posting from the near-present this time:

mikrit wrote:Blixtrar den ene, så åskar den andre Oscar II. I mean I agree.
(That was an ancient Swedish p*n that kind of describes the thread pretty well. Attempts to explain will be a bit tedious, but if you like tediously explained foreign p*ns:
Spoiler:
Aron Jonason was Royal Photographer for King Oscar II. One day, the king said:
- You sure make a lot of flashes today.
And Jonason replied at once:
- If one person makes flashes, then the other one makes thunder.
Which is funny, because "the other one makes thunder" sounds exactly like "Oscar II". If you say it Swedish, of course. Foreign languages can be strange like that. It would be less funny if it had been the current King Carl XVI Gustaf.
)

Learner of Swedish here. Explanation of pun is very much appreciated, tack så mycket!

They are larger than Blackberries and grow in a large tree - I can only reach some without a ladder. They crop for a long time - we started eating them 3 months ago. There is rarely a large number on any day, but they do well over the long period we get some, Blackbird raptors the rest. Once you can reach them they are increadibly easy to pick just touch them and they fall off into your hand or the ground. The tree is 20 years old and currently only about 15 feet tall - a baby.

Ha, they're literally treeish! Image Odd, since the children's rhyme that I associate with mulberries is "Here we go round the mulberry bush."

Indeed "mulberries do not grow on bushes", as the Wikipedia entry on that very same children's rhyme remarks.
