If my Excel maths is correctly:

Code: Select all

pages   date           no of days
0      25-mrt-2013
1000   4-jul-2013    101
2000   26-jun-2014   357
3000   12-dec-2014   900
4000   4-mei-2024    2700
5000   8-jul-2046    8100
6000   18-jan-2113   24300
7000   23-aug-2312   72900
8000   4-jun-2911    218700
9000   7-okt-4707    656100
10000   #            1968300

Excel is not able to give a date on our 10K pages mark.
By the time the time of Time starts we will be somewhere between 10K and 11K pages.

Why thank you, HES. :) I had the art ready, so I figured I might as well.
Actually, I had a bigger project conceptualized, but started it way too late:

2000WIP.png
2000WIP.png (63.71 KiB) Viewed 12763 times

...so it wasn't ready in Time. I also severely underestimated how much of the OTT's art was generated in the past 1000 newpages (compared to the first 1000). The image thumbnail there only includes NP1001 to 1400, and I was running out of room. For a bit of context, at NP1001 the thread didn't even know that Beanies existed yet. In the OTC, the Long Night had only just concluded. There has been so much steakish ottifying since then! The past thousand newpages have been a vast and wowterful journey.

It's epsilon how close the gap between newpages 1000 and 2000 is to a full yip. Just the span of the Long Night makes up the difference.

Treeish chart, Neil. 900 dips for the next millennium is actually a decent guess by Excel - that's a newpage/dip rate of 1.11, and the OTT's rate has been fluctuating between about 1.5 and 2.5 recently.

Everything after 2k was extrapolated using a very advanced system. The basis for that extrapolation was not done by Excel (although the final computations were).
translation: I guessed "about 3 times" and typed 900 for 3K. Then I told Excel to use the formula "=<cell above>*3" for the next guesses. Then I made the formula's to add that to the date. Dragging down to guess what the page count would be at the heat death of the universe told me Excel caps out at about 10305

I don't think that's what begging the question means.

You're right, though it's one of those things that gets used wrong so often it's becoming right. (I'd use "literally" as an example of that, but even Shakespeare used 'literally' to mean 'figuratively'.)
In any case, mostly I just didn't want to post the link with nothing else, and I was out of things to say for the moment.

2000 pages.

What a Time -- and a Time After Time -- it has been.

So many newpix and newpages and decrees and warm fuzzies and redundakitties and footnotes ... and puns ...

So much creativity and humour and generosity and speculation and cake ... and doughnuts ...

So hard to express enough thank yous, but to everyone who has contributed to one of the most bizarrely awesomeful places on the internet -- and to GLR and SilentTimer -- thank you.

Loving everybody's celebrations. It's all good warm-up for the start of the new millennium for next page :P

Wingish OTTifications all! Sadly, my creativity leaves a bit to be desired. I guess I could go for a "Thus Ends..."

*Ahem*

Scientists misunderstood what the millennium bug was. In reality, it is a real and deadly virus that infects anybody who accesses a new page with an index of 2000 or greater (that's a thing, right?). There is no known cure. All those currently active on the OTT will become infected and die within a few days. Other occasional posters and basementees will take a look to find out why everyone has suddenly stopped posting, and become infected themselves. Eventually in turn, more people go to investigate the cause until eventually everybody becomes infected. Thus Ends Humanity.

ETA: And suddenly, after a flurry of posts in the space of an hour it goes all quiet again. I hope I wasn't too accurate with my "Thus Ends" prediction. Hmmm... well, I'm not feeling too good, so I think I'll just go and lie down here. It's getting rather dark for me... Hey look there's a tunnel of light ahead...

NOT SURE IF GOING CAVE OR JUST RAPTORISH

Postby mrob27 » Thu Jun 26, 2014 2:46 pm UTC

第十四章

(chapter 13)

The pond is calm throughout the night, with the occasional croaks of toads and little quacks of the web-footed raptors. The hokora, a traveler's shrine (containing two bonsai and dedicated specifically to the little tree tile) gives its protection. Nevertheless, Morobu has unsettling dreams.
Around the mountain gather clouds, distinctly darker than the medium-gray of the mountain itself (which, following tradition, is always painted that way at this time of year by the robot painters of Fujisan). One web-footed raptor turns into a rabtor and jumps into a nearby rabbit-hole; the rest take flight and scatter in a most disorganized and un-Japanese fashion. There is a loud clap of thunder (but no rain) and out of the clouds comes a great flying robot, bigger and more brightly coloured than the Fujisan robots. The giant mecha-naut swoops down the slope, turns and lands with a *crash!* right beside Morobu. Somehow in the process, the giant bot has diminished significantly in size and morphed into human form.
Timidly, Morobu looks at the visitor, who calls himself Cloudy_the_Conqueror. "I too am a pilgrim seeking to build my Searchfu, out of stone and positronic servo-actuators. Many wips ago I built Rosetta and tallied 1123872 points, and my newfound skill will let me turn this mountain into a massive シャトーイフ!"
Morobu tries to make sense of this, whilst Cloudy_the_Conqueror morphs once more, this time into a giant turtle. "Will you hold up this mountain on your back whilst transforming it into the Castle?" But there is no answer. The giant turtle rises, turns and begins shooting balls of fire out its mouth, towards an unseen dragon on the other side of Fuji, evident only from its trail of smoke and embers arcing around the east side of the mountain's peak.

The right column seems to be the differences (101 dips from March 25th to July 4th and 357 dips from then until todip) so based on that, the date next to 3000 would need to be 12-dec-2016 (2 yips after what you have). But I get the same date you did for the following one (2700 dips after 2016-12-12 is 2024-05-04), and the 9000 line also checks out.

Excel is not able to give a date on our 10K pages mark.
By the time the time of Time starts we will be somewhere between 10K and 11K pages.

Assuming the Gregorian calendar is maintained, 1968300 days after 4707-10-07 will be the 13th October 10096.
Of course, with over 64,000 mips and only 40,000 posts, that'd mean less than one post per mip :(

Well spotted!

Can anybody read what's written on the barrel? Enhancement, please!

90% ninja'd by @adnapemit but what the heck: I see the radioactivity symbol () and the Latin letters "RADIOA TI". I presume it was labeled in English with the word "RADIOACTIVE".

Blindposting to get on the 2K page (since I missed the 1K page due to Outside stuff).

Blindpost for the newpage 2000

Postby azule » Thu Jun 26, 2014 3:04 pm UTC

Hah, I made it! Congrats everyone on 2e1 NP!!

Anyone want to weigh in on using mixed scripts? If we write Beanish and English together, whose punctuation wins? Like, if there's the word for Amtoo at the front, then probably English period wins at the end. But what if the last word is Beanish sea? Anyone have experience mixing any other languages, such as Spanish with its unique inverted question marks?

mrob - re: the alt text script. did you know that m.xkcd.com shows the alt text on touch?

Hello, ergman.

That makes me sounds remarkably cooler than I can possibly be. lol.
Plus, that colpix I don't remember seeing. Neat to whoever did it.

ggh "isn't decreasing the frequency of UNGs against the spirit of this thing?" - I stated my maybe of "delay posting". So that means that the frequency won't really changed (unless ggh+others are following an oldpixbot papal decree), it would just be shifted. This is for the purpose of continuing the current UNG posting practice but with less double-posting, hopefully. Ninja'd by BlitzGirl. Ninja'd by mscha. Not-ninja'd by oldpixbot. ;)

Silentpix has markings that appear to be...from the Latin alphabet, plust the radiation symbol. *ponders*

jimbobmacdoodle - Nice sunset! I'm glad that boat didn't say Soilent --- , or we wouldn't have scene you again. ;) (is that a pun, blitzgirl?)

taixzo wrote:I think we had this discussion 998 NP ago, where there was the celebration millenipage and the "real" millenipage.
The first party is where all the girls get drunk and topless. The second one is where all the nerds play D&D and enjoy the night with friends. Choose wisely.

BummerGirl "the OTC replay ends in one mip" - How is that even possible that the long night, the Beanies, Rosetta, and the Flood all are squeezed in there? Yeah...it was rushed, I still hold on to!

mikrit - That works, mikrit. EST would lend itself to naming girls: ESTer. I think going by this method, we get the acronym for all the languages we OTTers speak and we then have many new names to name ourselves.

patzer "...Yeah, my creativity has run out at this point :/" - Why do you say that? Seemed to be a fine OTTification, to me. I haven't heard/remember the original. Does it go on for longer?

Sciscitor "OTTCreation" - When will the OTT stop creating such creations (in this case I mean newwords)? We're never done. I live in a ghost house with staircases that go to second story windows. Thanks! I would modify this by one letter to OTCreation. Maybe that would apply to the OTC specific ones. *shrug*

mrob27 "Oooh, apparently AZULING is a verb now :D" - Maybe everything is now a verb. I have a template that converts adjectives and nouns into whatever else it becomes (maybe it's an adjective, or an adverb). What hath Link templateth?

mrob27 "I often get a meme that's kind of like what I want, then change a word or two." - I'm sorry, that's cheating. Especially if you have the power to add those possibilities in. I think you need a donut or something. A pickle sandwich. Please enjoy it. :P

macraw - Congrats on your SchizoAchievement!

With the date I saw each one on. I didn't start keeping track of them until the second one when I realized you were changing them, so I don't remember the exact wording of the first. And I wasn't sure whether the last two were related to the story. And I didn't keep the ones that were links to past OTT posts; those didn't seem to have anything to do with the story.

SBN wrote:(I'd use "literally" as an example of that, but even Shakespeare used 'literally' to mean 'figuratively'.)

You know, I don't think people use "literally" to mean "figuratively" so much as as an intensifier. Like in OtherComic 725 the guy isn't just saying that he was figuratively glued to his seat; that wouldn't have quite to connotation that "literally" does. He's saying he was even more transfixed than usual.

Yes. I don't know how many yet. My choice will affect the whole storyline, and so must be made judiciously.
But one thing I can tell you:
Spoiler:
One of mine for one of us.

I'm not sure if it's a limitation of the format or of the author.

AFAIA HAE didn't use technological augments, only bio-engineering. As for the suspended animation thing, think of Margrit body's as a laptop: someone put her to sleep and forgot to wake her up (unplug from AC); energy drops to a critical level and vital functions drop to an almost zero level (hibernation/suspension).

Universal Soldier? Terminator Salvation? Something more to the sci-fi land?
An important detail is that Margrit's not a soldier; some of the program's subject are lent by customers' armies, but she's a MT employee. (Imagine the paycheck for “permanent irreversible modifications”.)

I'll posting a timeline. Soon.
