I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile because of their change from "unlimited" to "not-really-unlimited-but-we're-going-to-call-it-unlimited-anyway".

I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T because T-Mobile had terrible coverage at my new house due to their tower being on the other side of a hill from me.

AT&T promptly built a new tower of their own around the same spot, proudly bragged about it in a letter they sent out to all their customers in my area, and then apparently decommissioned the other tower because now my coverage is almost as bad as it was with T-Mobile.

Coverage was definitely a consideration when I was deciding whether to switch. Since I was only going to use the phone in the Gulfport-Biloxi, MS area and later on in Hawaii, where there is adequate T-Mobile coverage, it worked out. I did, however, fail to consider that I was going to drive across the country before heading out to Hawaii and that I'd encounter a lot of dead spots along the way (especially northern Mississippi and Missouri). I actually arrived in Iowa with the expectation that it wasn't going to work at all, but it turns out that T-Mobile partially owns Iowa Wireless, so I get roaming-free 3G coverage while I'm home with the parents.

Also, T-Mobile is planning to do a major network expansion this year and next, so hopefully, they'll have more 3G and LTE coverage throughout the country.

Well, if directions for hand soap are not necessary, then those "directions" are not necessary. And, if directions for hand soap are necessary, then those "directions" do not help.

Yeah, shortly after they discontinued their unlimited plans for new customers, they started throttling existing customers after reaching arbitrary data caps. I'd always get warnings if I hit three gigabytes that my data was about to be throttled.
