Madness lexicon 2015

Postby Qaanol » Mon Apr 06, 2015 5:41 am UTC

This is a thing that people do, right?

So far I’ve noticed the thing with ‘s’ and ‘th’, plus a number of…less intuitive word filters.

small = wee
earth = Disc
basic = Basiceros
the speed of light = really not very fast at all

filter = thing that changes a thing to another thing
filters = things that change things to other things
wordfilter = thing that changes a word to another word
wordfilters = thingth that change words to other words

madness = Madnethth
awesome = awethome
special = thpecial
things = thingth
this = thith
seconds = thecondth
super = thuper

…okay, I’m going to stop tracking the “th” shift.

Those of us who frequent the Time thread have a list going at our wiki for translation purposes.

What is "really not very fast at all"? I haven't seen that one in the wild yet.

Also, lovers-of-programming are now lovers-of-ant-farming. All different kinds of species of ants.

Ah, clever. And therefrom is linked this spreadsheet.

Oh, somewhere around about 1.8026175×1012 furlongs per fortnight.

Light speed - how fast light goes.
Pro tip: put miniscule letters into words to skip filters.

Ah yes, when you phrase it that way it is so. Both light speed and the speed of light have separate translations.

That's a pretty shitty protip. That's more of an "I'm a novice, look at how clever I think I am" tip.

Look at them. Trying to circumvent the filters.

This is typical of life.

There was that one who tried to stop gravity working.

We taught him a lesson.

It is almost as bad as when they try to understand how things work.

They call it science.

We call it messy.

Indeed. If really necessary, put some Cyrillic or markup tags in between, but most of the time this will only enfuriate our overlords and make you pay for you sins in hilarious ways (for our enjoyment).

Ahem. I've received two private messages that seem directed to other people, regarding subjects I'd never heard of. This was more than a bit creepy, since I received notifications of them with links in my gmail account. I didn't click on the embedded links because I've been phished in a similar way before.

If this identity-shuffling is part of the Madness, the parties responsible may wish to reconsider. Phishing, or the appearance of phishing, makes many of us EXTREMELY anxious.

The messages I received:

I like that I turned pink. Seems very festive to the Easter/Solstice/Sup spring? season.
I dyed one of the tassels on my fox hat pink yesterday.

But I think Soul Cake really fits mardis gras better than e-a-s-t-e-r. But I like that Soul Cake is likely a take on Solstice, though scholars are divided.

Also, I'm angry that I've been excluded in receiving mail that wasn't intended to go to me, while ObsessoMom does. What kind of capitalist monarchy would allow such inequality?

democracy = capitalist monarchy

Also I ate too much yesterday. I am pretty just sure if you just eat too many eggs, or eggs themed things, you just are probably am just become pregnant.

For better or for worse, it tends to be fun.

There are many filters in effect that haven't been discovered reliably yet.

Mainly because it kind of feels that using golems to find them is cheating.

I always like seeing which filters are discovered and which ones are ignored, especially for variations of a filter. Especially as the more complex variation is usually discovered first and the simple version sometimes never noted.

For example, if Falcon and Falconeering were filtered, someone would find Falconeering. And Falcon would never get noticed.

The word describing one's self, in a single letter, that is next to the "o" on a qwerty keyboard is filtered to "i" which is breaking all the italics tags, lol. That shit is bananas.

What just occured to me is that you were probably talking about fully automated spiders, something I didn't actually use. I just did a dictionary attack. Copypasta an entire dictionary in pieces in and out of the forum (takes long) so I could do a diff. More like.. half-man half-golem. Found much more later with educated guesswork. I actually think a dictionary is missing most of it.
