Is Beastmaster a bad movie? I liked it as a kid.

I also liked Suburban Commando, the movie about Hulk Hogan trying to pretend to be an actor.

In that case, Starship Troopers. A total campy fun fest that hit all the right buttons for me as male teenager. Released the same year as the 5th Element (1997, a good year).

The Butterfly Effect

Is it a bad movie? I don't think so, but the overwhelming majority of critics think so even though IMDB seems to think it's a good movie. The lead was Ashton Kutcher, who you may remember as a total prick, so critics panned the movie.

There were some silly issues I had with the movie. First being
Spoiler:
the manslaughter of the mother and baby. Father in a mental institution, sociopathic neighbor murdering your pet, and being raped as a kid are all real world traumas that happen to real people. But killing the mother and baby with a stick of dynamite? That's like, a cartoon.

Second being
Spoiler:
Evan never actually properly plans out his jumpbacks. By "planning", I mean, like, for instance with the drawing of him growing up to be a murderer. Why not write an actual message instead like "help, my friend's father is a pedophile rapist who threatens us with a stick of dynamite located in this jar" that'll lead to the dad being sent away or something?

Be Kind Rewind

it's still amazing to me that people don't get the satire in that movie.
It's not being clueless, or not thinking about it, people who know about movies watched it and read it as something different and missed the core of the movie.

There aren't that many movies that I think are poor quality that I like anyways, John Carpenter movies are good actually, but there definitely are a couple of movies that are well made, effective works of art, but also are emotionally difficult, aesthetically challenging, or shocking and I would not recommend to almost anyone.

2018 has been a big year for that, Mandy, Hereditary, Sorry to Bother You
all really good films, should you go see them? mmmaybe not.

I don't think Be Kind Rewind counts as a bad movie - seems like most critics liked it.

As for Sorry to Bother You, I would not say it's a good movie, personally. I think it's bad, and I don't like it.

It's currently at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is technically more than half positive, but that's not a good grade. I was going less off of critical consensus and more off how I wouldn't explain how much I like it with appeals to quality of performance or craftsmanship.

It sure is a challenging movie, and I don't fault anyone for not enjoying it, but it's one of at least 4 movies in 2018 that I feel took a step forward in what movies can be and what film can do. It's a visually intense and fast paced interrogation of race and class in 21st century America.
... hey, both those movies have Danny Glover in them

I'm glad you liked it, I guess. I posted my thoughts about it in the relevant thread so I won't just retype them from memory here.
