Alt-text: I don't know what's worse -- that there exists broken-hard-drive-sound techno, or that it's not half bad.

I happen to like techno, and I think that DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS!

Sometimes I'm glad webcomics aren't that mainstream, if only so that the techno industry can stay afloat.

Because surely, it would not be able to after this comic becomes common knowledge.

interesting, according to my time stamps this thread was opened 45minutes ago, but it wasnt here 5 minutes ago nor was the comic up. interesting

anyway, i love techno, but it gets annoying if you focus on just listening.

gdi link
little do we all know, rick is actually the beast of broken-hardrive techno, its just halfway in the song and no one ever gets there

I totally agree. Same thing with punk like Simple Plan, just copy one song over 10 times and you have an album! Almost.

Funny thing, I didn't actually bother with the link until I heard it was a rickroll. I just love that song :D.

While I generally like techno, I have to agree that it's like minimalism in pop music.

I have techno songs whose intros are, like, half the length of the song.

The buildup is fun, but I still have to agree with Strong Bad's assessment--just pile up instrument after instrument with the same rhythmic frame and you get techno. Preferably, they should be in the same key, but not necessarily.

Good comic. :)

Wait a minute, does that mean Pachelbel's Canon is Techno?

The first Techno I ever heard was axelf.mod, being played by a Sophomore in the computer lab at school to test a SoundBlaster card's setup. I have never found any so pure, so lovely, as that.

As far as copying samplers goes, I'm a fan of YTMND, so only having part of a song doesn't bother me at all. (Perhaps that in itself should bother me; meh.) I've thought about recording the Amazon sampler for an entire album; listening to an hour's worth of music in fifteen minutes for zero cost is appealing, but not quite fair use.

iTunes sells tons of DRM-free music. I'm sure at least some of it is techno, and if it isn't I'm sure you can play three or four songs at the same time, half of them backwards, to reproduce music of the same or greater quality than techno.

I'm not sure which is worse: the fact that this comic hits the nail on the head, or the fact that I still bought Techno Trance Anthems volumes 1 and 2.

I listen to mainly electronica/techno. Here are some of my favorites. (and proof that it's not all just loops)

Daft Punk - Robot Rock / Oh Yeah (Alive 2007)
I play this as loud as my ears can stand. The first part makes me get goosebumps.

Trentemoller - The Very Last Resort
The whole album is gold. Vamp is out of place, but still a good track in it's own right.

Nathan Fake - The Sky was Pink
Another great album.

Jackson and His Computer Band - Utopia
There are much better songs on this album, but not on YouTube. (I really like Teen Beat Ocean)

The Knife - Pass This On
My friend is in love with her voice. The live album I have, sounds so much better... but again, limited resources on YouTube.

Covox - Computer Love
How can you not love it. It is 8 bit awesome.

Modeslektor - Ziq Zaq
Modeselektor is hit or miss. This is a homerun, however.

There are others that I'm not going to spend time searching for, that you should. Joris Voorn, Manual (he does it manually, so no loops), Thievery Corp, Alphamono to name a few.

I'm actually listening to DI.fm right now so it made me giggle, twas a bit of a harsh assessment however.
I think every genre of music is disliked by someone, so I generally don't take it to heart.

Daft Punk - Something About Us

Sappy and romantic. Makes me think of my SO.

(Edited to add this)

Bloodhound Gang - Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss
Satirical look at techno/dance. This is the dirty version.

Good techno develops and progresses like any other type of music. What this strip is describing is bad techno.

I actually have a techno version of Pachelbel's Canon on my computer at home. As I recall, all they did was add a faster rhythm line over the original music.

Hi!

I am not so fond of techno music, but there's an artist with a bit of a unique style of music and I was wondering if anyone has already heard him before.
If you didn't, check him out, I am quite sure that people who enjoy xkcd would enjoy his music and the lyrics.

Styrofoam: http://www.myspace.com/styrofoam

Quote from his "Sounds like" box:

happy beats and sad lyrics during an early morning sunrise while downing your first espresso macchiato of the day

EDIT:If you find the songs on the top of his music player to Pop-py, listen to the last two ones, they're from the previous albums
