I want to know what the girl's sign says... I figure:
---------
Girlfriends
Against
W O W
---------

others?

If you are visually impaired or cannot otherwise read this confirmation code, then you probably can't see this message either so it's questionable why we put it here.

Anyone remember the Larry Niven "Cloak of Anarchy" story?

I think there was a mention of a protester in there with a blank sign that would join protests to watch people's reactions.

My apathetic nature towards many subjects provides that I would do something similar to this given the chance.

The girl's sign obviously states "END CAT HUNGER MEOW". They are a branch of PETA that happens to enjoy bad puns.

The humor is a little bit like Demetri Martin's indifferent graffiti joke, but it's hilarious just the same. Definitely not a steal, but similar.

Reminds me a lot of Demetri Martin - Personal Information Waltz

Demetri Martin wrote:Graffiti… I don’t like graffiti, unless it teaches me something, you know? Like “Oh, that’s how Alex feels about Maria. I wouldn’t have known if I had not walked by there, thank you.” Graffiti’s the most passionate literature there is, you know? It’s always like “Bush sucks!”, “U2 Rocks!”. I want to make indifferent graffiti. “Toy Story 2 was okay!” “I like Sheryl as a friend, but I’m not sure about taking things further”, “This is a bridge!”, “That guy’s right!”

You beat me, but to my credit I looked up lyrics and the video itself to put in my post ... :-D

This and counter-protests are the best thing ever. Make those hippies confused!
Also, wow, posting early in a thread like this is hard, It asked me to review my post like 5 times (I would have been third post but you all type faster than me or something)

Still not as epic as Kevin Smith showing up at a protest of Dogma in his home town.

Now that's the kind of protest subject I could get enthusiastic about.
I find it monumentally dismaying that millions, MILLIONS, will gleefully suspend their distrust for authority simply because they were told what everyone knew they wanted to hear.

Whoever made that sign needs to listen to "We Will All Go Together When We Go" by Tom Lehrer. =D

I always find the hardest part of "What we've got is pretty good" protests is that the cliche "When do we want it? Now!" is hard to pull off when you already have it...

Code: Select all

enum ಠ_ಠ {°□°╰=1, °Д°╰, ಠ益ಠ╰};
void ┻━┻︵╰(ಠ_ಠ ⚠) {exit((int)⚠);}

SOmetimes when people are talking about abortion, I say I am pro it.
Not pro-life, not pro-choice. Pro-abortion. All women should get abortions whether they want to or not.
Usually they realize I'm joking.

Is it just me or is the girl riding her picket sign (note whether the leg lines cross the post or not...)

I loved this one. And I feel very identified since I'm always reminding people that we are quite well in comparison on how we were centuries ago.

Wouldn't it kinda suck if EVERYONE who turned up to a protest was like this? I guess it would be a protest against protests...

Exactly my thoughts when I read the comic. His experience was less than enjoyable - something about being chased by a mob ...

I thought I'd take the opportunity of half-hearted and vaguely off-topic protests to half-heartedly put forward the idea of a form that isn't really on topic for people who like to write those "I like/don't like the direction Randall is taking, and thought I'd take the time to inform everyone here" posts.

----
Y'know, lately the comics have been

[ ] Getting worse
[ ] Terrible
[X] Pretty okay
[ ] Fantastic

As a result I will be

[ ] Monitoring the situation further
[ ] Ceasing my readership and encouraging others to do so also
[X] Continuing to read as always
[ ] Reading everything on this site twice

Additionally:
I am a [first time reader/short term reader/long term reader] of these fora and felt compelled to make my [first post ever/various single to double digit post/I don't have a job] on this topic.

----

If you have any suggestions or good or bad feedback, then make changes yourself. I'll be playing scrabble with cute protestors.
Son of a bit!

I should make an all-purpose protest sign. Something all-encompassing.
Like: "I disagree/agree with the current situation" with like a little arrow I can change from agree to disagree.
or "Value My Opinion!"
or "Pander to my Vote!"

I like that episode. It got real talent. I watched it on me DVD.

Spoiler:
Most. Obscure. Simpsons. Reference. Ever.

My personal favorite protest sign: "DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING"
Versatile, yet ambiguous. Use it anywhere.

Once when I was extremely bored, I made up picket signs with completely random words like "CHEESE" on them and picketed some places. :D

Also fun: upside-down signs, blank signs, "honk if you love cookies".

Am I the only one who thinks that the Title of this comic (Not title text, the actual title) is the best line?
Why is it that 4chan is either infinitely awesome, infinitely bad, or "lolwut", but never any intermediary level?

"CAREFUL NOW"

Y'know what? Next Scientology protest, I'm taking one or both of those signs along.

I THINK EVERYONE IN THIS THREAD IS CUTE. EXCEPT ME. I'M NOT CUTE. THIS IS NOT FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS, THIS IS JUST HONESTY. I'M SERIOUS. NO. STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT. SERIOUSLY. IT'S FREAKING ME OUT. STOP IT.

Take that sign to a protest. You'll either fall over from the size of the board, or people will have to squint to read it, and won't get the joke anyway.

I don't really consider The Watchmen series as part of reality canon.
It's more like reality fan fiction.
