Yep. I got there at 3ish. We came down from West 34th & 8th cause we were seeing off a friend from Philadelphia on the Bolt Bus. Went straight to the bar. Looked around. Went into the carvery. Looked around. Was asked three times if I wanted a seat. By four different people. Had another drink. Saw two guys by the window. No ruminant tattoo or gorilla-high-fiving-a-shark tee shirt, however. They gave me a strange look as I tried to examine their four arms' forearms.

I like the place, seeing as Joyce is my favourite Irish writer that died in 1941.

Looks like I might be up for a meetup after all? This Saturday people are protesting Proposition 8 at City Hall at 1:30, and I will definitely be there. Other people should come too. If you come I will maybe actually meet you. Possibly. But even without the maybe-meeting-me, people should go to this for realz.

But wait... isn't Prop 8 a California thing? Why protest it in NY?

Instead of the protest on Saturday, I suggest we drive across the country to Sacramento and throw eggs at the Governator in order to make our displeasure with him known to all and sundry.

NB: "All and sundry" is a most excellent phrase and I shall be using it on a more frequent basis from now on.

I'd say it's more than likely that it will become a federal matter soon. Also, nationwide protests help to show solidarity for the group affected, even if the people protesting aren't directly in that group.

I'm trying to reconfigure my plans Saturday so I can attend.

I think we need to come up with lots of alternate, equally shitty titles for the movie. "Quantum of Solace" makes me want to suck on the barrel of a Walther PPK.

Also we could dress up in tuxedoes and beat the hell out of each other during slow points. To make sure the audience is never bored.

When we heard the title of the movie, my friend and I translated it to Japanese and printed up tshirts. We figured we could be just like those cool kids who wander around wearing shirts with japanese characters on them, with the added bonus of confusing the hell out of any actual Japanese people we ran into.

Alright, you crazy fuckers: two orders of business.

First, what's the deal with Batman tomorrow night? Laz, since you mentioned it, do you want to clue us in on time and theater if/when you know?

Second, I propose we pick a time and spot to meet up for the protest. It sounds like they're expecting crowds of multiple thousands -- and City Hall Park isn't that big -- which makes me think it would be a good idea to meet up outside of the actual event. What do we think about Broadway and Vesey?

I generally do my movie-ing in the Battery Park movie theatre, mostly because you can count on it being more or less empty at 8PM on a Friday, which is how I like watching my movies.

If you know of a better place, you're welcome to throw it out there... I'm not too picky.

The meetup plan for the protest sounds good. If you want my cellphone number in order to coordinate, PM me-- I'd rather not post it on a public forum.

Hello--drive by posting--we're going to watch Quantum of Wallace at 5pm at the Loew's IMAX "theater" (really, it's "theatre") on Broadway & West 68th. Come meet us and we can watch and enjoy (although I heard IMAX is gonna be $12.50+tax+$4, but hell, we're on holication).

We're heading to the Plaza Hotel on 5th & SE Corner of Central Park (for a Home Alone 2 reference), wandering across to Columbus Circle, then up to Strappleberry Fields between 72-74th West Central Park, have a shoot-out at the Dakota Building on 74th, and then on to the cinema (at about 4.45) to watch more cool British gunplay. This will all take place between 2-5pm.

If you want to stalk us, I am wearing a grey T-shirt with spatterings of silver, but probably will be wearing a black coat, grey scarf and navy blue hat with earflaps, plus some sweet $3 black gloves from Old Navy. I will be with a black girl who looks a million dollars (long beige jacket, brown fur boots, long grey/beige/dark scarf). She speaks at a level of roughly 125dB, which is akin to an aeroplane taking off over a jackhammer convention.

We're heading off now, and the cleaners are at the door--I have to get out quick before they notice the mass devastation we have caused to our hotel room. ("How did you get egg stains behind the picture rail?")

I go in, swipe my credit card. The machine says that it can't find my reservation, and tells me to ask the counter to give me a ticket. The ticket counter lady takes my credit card and says that the ticket was already been printed out, and that she can't give me another one.

Meanwhile, the show is sold out, and I am left outside in the rain and fog. I would have kicked a small dog if I could find one, but there were only teenagers and middle aged stockbrokers available.

Sorry sorry sorry, I'm leaving now for the protest and I'll try and find y'all but I don't know how long it'll take me to get there and I don't know if I'll be able to find Broadway and Vesey, but I'll try!

ETA: Well, I waited there for a while but I guess I missed you guys or something. Anyway, the protest wasn't even in the park, it was just along the sides of it, so after a little while I just left because I couldn't tell what was going on. Hopefully it did something though?

I doubt anything was actually achieved today, but there were some adorable children there, as well as few hilariously good signs. I got pictures of some of them, and I'll post them somewhere after I finish processing them.

Edit: We were there at around 1.30... I was the brown guy with DSLR and a tshirt with a keytar on it. All in all, I think we need to work on our crowd-meetup skillz.

Indeed. I was wearing a jacket, so searching for my tattoo would've been fruitless, and I neglected to mention what I'd be wearing (or what I look like). Also, sorry about the intersection. I somehow thought the big messy corner was another block up.

When we were there, I'd guess there couldn't have been more than a couple thousand people, and probably less. According to my friend's mom, there were some 20 thousand by the time the protest wound up. I have no idea how legitimate that figure is, but it sure sounds cool.

Hee, it's okay. But now that I actually did make it there, I'm pretty sure I could get myself to another meetup if I'm available next time. Less fortunately, I'm going home to RI for most of the week of Thanksgiving, and I'll be leaving NYC for good around December 20th, so I don't have a lot of time left here. But I'll keep an eye on this thread for any goings-on.
